 ACADEMIC CALENDAR

 

The academic year at Bulgarian universities, BFU inclusive, is divided into two semesters of five months each. The semester includes classes and examination sessions and lasts 15 weeks.

 

The fall semester starts officially around the 1st of October of the relevant calendar year and lasts until the 1st of March next calendar year. The date of the actual beginning of the academic year can vary. There are no classes from Christmas to New Year’s Day as well as on public holidays. Duration of holidays is specified with a decree of the Council of Ministers.

    05 October 2009 - 17 January 2010

    18 January 2010 – 14 February 2010

Resit session                      

    15 February 2010 - 28 February 2010

 

Spring semester 2009/2010       

    01 March 2010 - 30 May 2010

Regular examination session       

    31 May 2010 - 27 June 2010

Resit session                           

    28 June 2010 – 11 July 2010

Liquidation examination session  

    23 August 2010 - 03 October 2010

 

Examination sessions are usually held at the end of respective lecture period of the winter and summer semester. However, each of the dean’s offices is entitled to apply special or extra conditions for holding examination sessions.
