PARTICIPATION OF BFU IN THE ERASMUS PROGRAMME
In 1999 Burgas Free University started its participation in the SOCRATES/ERASMUS programme. In the beginning bilateral agreements for preparatory visits, student and teaching staff mobility were signed with the University of Surrey, Guildford, UK; Technical University Chemnitz, Germany and the University of Porto, Portugal. In 2002 Burgas Free University applied for and received the ERASMUS UNIVERSITY CHARTER by the European Commission. It gave the university access to the programme for the period 2003 – 2006 academic years. During the years 2002-2006 Burgas Free University expanded its work on the programme and signed bilateral agreements with other partners from Europe – the Polytechnical Institute Beja, Portugal; the University of Granada, Spain; Westsächsische Hochschule Zwickau, Germany; Polytechnic University, Finland; University of Rotterdam, Holland; University of Lausitz, Germany; National Technical University of Athens, Greece; University of the West of Scotland, Paisley, UK; University of San Jorge, Spain; University of Essen, Germany; Elblag University of Humanities and Economy, Poland; IREO de Bressuire, France; Universite du Littoral Cote D’Opale, France; Halic University in Istanbul,. Turkey. In 2006 Burgas Free University applied for and received the extended ERASMUS UNIVERSITY CHARTER by the European Commission, No. 81115-IC-1 -2007-1 -BG-ERASMUS-EUC-1. It gave the university access to the new Lefelong Learning Programme for the period 2007 – 2013 academic years.
