ERASMUS PROGRAMME TRANSPORT
The town of Burgas
is a major transport centre in the country. Bulgaria’s biggest
international airport is situated here. During the tourist season the airport
provides charter flights to various destinations in Europe – Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Berlin, Munich, Dresden, Leipzig, Moscow, Kiev, Minsk, etc. During
the week there are flights from Sofia to Burgas and
back. The flight takes about 45 minutes. The one-way plane ticket for students
costs 80 euro. The fare can be even lower if a charter
flight to Burgas is used. Arrivals at Burgas Airport can take No. 15 bus to get to the Central Railway Station. Then a
15-minute walk along the Alexandrovska Street will take you
directly to the University.
There are also scheduled trains and buses connecting Sofia and Burgas. There are two day-time express trains, four day-time fast trains, and two night trains to Burgas. The day-time express or fast train is seat-assignment tickets only, whereas the night train offers sleepers. The fare is 19 leva for the express and 18 leva for the fast train. The trip takes about 7 hours. From Burgas Central Train Station you could walk to BFU along Alexandrovska Street or take a bus No. 211, which will stop right in front of the university building.
If you wish to
visit the capital, you can travel by train from Burgas to Sofia. There are two
express and three fast trains during the day, as well as two night trains with
sleeping cars.
Every day there is
a regular bus service connecting Sofia and Burgas. The bus fare is between 25
and 29 leva. This
kind of transport is more preferable, because the trip takes only about 5-6
hours depending on the weather and road conditions, and it is more comfortable.
The buses leave from the Central Bus Station which is near the Central Railway
Station in Sofia and arrive at the Bus Station Terminal “South” in Burgas,
close to the Central Train Station in the town. There are buses leaving at 8.00, 13.30, 15.00 and 16.30 from Sofia to Burgas. The
schedule for destination Burgas – Sofia is: 6.30, 8.00, 9.00, 13.30, 14.00 and 16.00.
The pedestrian
areas in the city are well developed and this allows for the easy walking
through the central part to the sea garden and the beach without transport
means. The connection with the living areas is made by bus and trolleybus. The
price of a bus ticket is 80 stotinki.
It is comfortable
to use a taxi in town. There are several taxi companies, which offer the
service by telephone-call order. The price per
kilometer during the day is on the average 0.55 – 0.65 stotinki, and during the
night – 0.65 – 0.85 stotinki.
The town of Burgas offers a Rent-a-Car service. Prices vary depending on the duration of renting and the type of the car. The service per day costs between 25 and 75 euro. When renting for a longer period, prices are considerably decreased. |
