Atanas Semov at the Bulgarian Free University with his book and film about the April Uprising
On May 11 at 5:30 p.m. in Hall 110 of the Burgas Free University, Corresponding Member Prof. Dr. Atanas Semov will present his book and film about the April Uprising. The event is part of the BSU's celebration of 150 years since the outbreak of the April Uprising and in the calendar for the 35th anniversary of the university's founding.
Prof. Semov has repeatedly emphasized that the Bulgarian spirit is alive and the country needs valiant people who will carry the future of the fatherland. Prof. Semov's book "150 Years of the April Uprising. 150 Heroes Tell the Story" is co-authored with Vessela Dobreva and is written in the style of documentary fiction. It presents the fates of little-known revolutionaries who tell their stories in the first person. These are 150 first-person accounts of participants in the April Uprising from Northern Bulgaria. Along with famous names such as Matei Preobrazhenski, Tsanko Dyustabanov, Baba Tonka and many others, lesser-known heroes of national liberation are also presented. For his author's film "Nine Swallows of Freedom", which returns the voice of the founders of the Novoselo Republic, the professor emphasized that it was in Northern Bulgaria - in Novoselo - that the first Bulgarian republic was proclaimed - decades before many modern European countries.
Atanas Semov is a corresponding member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Science, professor at the Sofia University "St. Kl. Ohridski", judge at the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Bulgaria and an incredible encyclopedist. The event is taking place within the framework of the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising and is in response to the national call of the leadership of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Academic Organizing Committee for National Unity and Coordinated Celebration of the Anniversary: "150 Years of the April Uprising: Memory, Unity, Future" under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria Ilina Yotova.
