The most significant event for the EC Mission Oceans will take place in Burgas, at BFU!
The most significant event of the year for one of the four basins (lighthouses) of the Mission "Restore our Oceans and Waters by 2030" - "Danube and Black Sea" of the European Commission (EC) will be held on October 15 in Hall "East" of the Burgas Free University (BFU).
The insistence in the full name of this lighthouse (the other three respectively are the Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea, and the North and Baltic Seas) of Mission Oceans (innicialy named only "Danube") to include the Black Sea was a personal cause of the current rector of BFU Prof. Dr. Milen Baltov. He was one of the two Bulgarian members in the initial stage (2019-2021) of the boards and assemblies of the newly structured five missions for the EU's 9th Framework Program for Research and Innovation "Horizon Europe".
The event under the title "From the Sources of the Danube to the Black Sea - healthy waters and a healthy life" is organized by the General Directorate "Research and Innovation" (DG "RTD") of the EC, on whose website a separate page is structured. The mandatory initial registration of willing participants should be done there - the form is https://ec.europa.eu/eusurvey/runner/ParticipantRegistrationForm
This registration will also be confirmed on-site from 8:30 a.m. on October 15 in front of the "East" hall of BFU.
The forum will be opened at 9:15 a.m. by the mayor of the Municipality of Burgas, Mr. Dimitar Nikolov, and by the rector of BFU, Prof. Milen Baltov. Key speakers will be the Minister of the Environment and Waters of the Republic of Bulgaria, Mr. Petar Dimitrov, and the Deputy Director General of the DG "Maritime and Fisheries" and the Mission Manager, Mr. Kęstutis Sadauskas, and video messages will be delivered by the Commissioner for research, innovation, education, youth and sport, Ms. Iliana Ivanova, and the chairman of the Mission's board, Mr. Pascal Lamy.
The conclusions of the work of the form will be made by the current member of the board of Mission Oceans, Ms. Ivelina Vasileva, and the director of the "Healthy Planet" Directorate in DG "RTD" and deputy manager of the Mission, Mr. John Bell.
