Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering
The Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering at Burgas Free University provides training in the field of Information Technology, Computer Science, Robotics, Energy and Renewable Energy Sources. Two department councils function within the structure of the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering: ‘Informatics and Computer Science’ and ‘Technical Sciences’. The research teams at the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering implement projects in the following fields: modern software technologies, artificial intelligence, robotic systems, energy efficiency, hydrogen energy and non-conventional renewable energy sources. The Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering issues the Electronic Journal for Computer Science and Communications.
According to the Bulgarian University Ranking System the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering ranks first among all the universities providing training in the field of Communication and Computer Technologies in terms of the the theoretical knowledge and practical skills acquired, the facilities provided, the teaching and learning environment, the library stock and administrative services assessment, the assessment of international mobility opportunities, the support for students’ participation in internships, etc. The Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering holds the second place in the country in terms of the financial support and scholarships per student as well as the support for the career development of students.
The Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering provides state-of-the-art tuition in accordance with the leading world standards and the latest trends in the development of technology. To enhance the training of the students we have equipped a modern laboratory complex with 11 engineering laboratories and 10 computer rooms with specialised software and high-speed Internet access.
The Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering has established active co-operation with organisations and institutions working in the field of computer technologies, energy and renewable energy sources like Telerik, Musala Soft, Smart Systems, photovoltaic power stations, hydroelectric power stations, wind farms, the Bulgarian National Electricity Company – NEK, the State Agency for National Security, the Research Institute of Forensic Science and Criminology (RIFSC), etc. for the implementation of internships, student practices, seminars and study visits. The practical training and professional development of the students are also furthered by the Student Centre for Career Development at Burgas Free University.
The tuition is carried out in accordance with the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), which enables the international mobility of students. Under the Erasmus+ programme for study mobility the students from the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering are given the opportunity to receive grants for international placements and participation in international co-operation projects as well as undertake a study for one semester at a European university – partner of the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering in Germany, the UK, Portugal, Poland, Turkey and Greece.
The students of the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering are given the opportunity to earn a teaching certificate in their professional field, parallel to their major, upon graduation or after their graduation. The Cisco Networking Academy established and functioning at the Faculty provides internationally recognized certification courses to help students develop the foundational skills needed to design, build and manage computer networks.
The students of the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering also have the opportunity to attend the Robotics Club and the Programming Competition Club. Burgas Free University hosts an annual National Student Research Conference where the students of the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering have the chance to participate and present their research papers. The Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering promotes the students’ participation in various national and international contests, conferences and forums organised by universities and institutions and encourages the participation of the students in research projects run by the Faculty.
