A New Beginning with 35 Years of History – BFU Opens the Academic Year

With excitement, smiles, and many young faces, Bourgas Free University opened the new academic year. This beginning is particularly significant as it is part of the year in which the University celebrates the 35th anniversary of its founding – 35 years of academic traditions, development, and a vision for the future.

At the center of this festive day were the first-year students, who crossed the threshold of BFU for the first time as part of its academic community. For them, a new stage begins, filled with knowledge and challenges, but also with new friendships, inspiring encounters, and experiences that shape the true meaning of university years.

The solemn ceremony brought together lecturers, students, members of the Board of Trustees of BFU, representatives of academic circles, state and local authorities, and the business sector.

Among the official guests were Diko Dikov, Governor of Burgas Region; Mihail Nenov, Deputy Mayor for Education, Healthcare, Social Activities, and Youth Policies of Burgas Municipality; Mr. Veselin Anestiev, Deputy Governor of Burgas Region; Prof. Dr. Sevdalina Turmanova, Vice-Rector of Prof. Dr. Assen Zlatarov University; Mr. Dmytro Zakharchenko, Executive Director [of...]*; Mr. Vitaliy Vasilchenko, Director of Human Resources and Social Activities at Promet Steel EAD; and Mr. Georgi Georgiev, Director of Personnel Management and Administrative Affairs at Lukoil Neftohim Burgas.

Congratulatory addresses on the occasion of the opening of the academic year were received from Prof. Dr. Eliza Stefanova, Rector of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski"; Prof. Dr. Sotir Sotirov, Rector of Prof. Dr. Assen Zlatarov University; and Angel Stoykov, Chairman of the National Assembly of Student Councils.

The Regional Governor, Diko Dikov, and the Deputy Mayor, Mihail Nenov, addressed the students and the academic community.

With a formal speech, the Rector of BFU, Prof. Dr. Milen Baltov, welcomed the first-year students and officially opened the academic year.

The beginning of the new academic year connects the 35-year history of BFU with a new generation of students, who from this day forward become a part of it. It brings gratitude to the people who built the University's traditions and confidence in the young individuals who will continue to develop new ideas in education.

Following the official ceremony, the first-year students met with the deans and lecturers of their respective centers to take their first steps into academic life at BFU.
