BFU Officially Opened the Academic Year
“I am delighted to welcome you to our beautiful university – in a festive atmosphere, with enthusiasm, hope, and faith that together we will seek new scientific challenges,” said Prof. Dr. Maria Alexieva, Vice-Rector of Burgas Free University (BSU), at the opening ceremony. Over 1,500 new students have enrolled in 10 bachelor's and 28 master's programs. BSU reports a significant increase in the number of international students. Currently, 200 foreign students from the Russian Federation, Ukraine, Poland, Uzbekistan, Latvia, Kazakhstan, Germany, and Armenia are studying at BSU.
In his welcome speech, Rector Prof. Dr. Milen Baltov emphasized BSU’s leading role in the regional development of the country and its strong international reputation. BSU is a member of the European University of Islands, Ports and Coastal Territories (EUNICoast), an alliance of 13 higher education institutions led by the University of Normandy in Le Havre, France.
This academic year, BSU will host Erasmus+ students from Portugal, Spain, Slovakia, and Poland. Faculty members from universities in Norway and Latvia are expected to participate in Erasmus+ mobility programs at BSU’s Center for Legal Studies and Center for Economic and Management Studies.
Official guests at the ceremony included: Mr. Mihail Nenov, Deputy Mayor of Burgas Municipality; Mr. Dmitry Zakharchenko, Executive Director of Promet Steel JSC; Mr. Vitaliy Vasilchenko, HR Director at Promet Steel JSC; Mr. Stoyan Nikolov, Deputy Director of Personnel Management at Lukoil Neftochim Burgas.
Members of BSU’s Board of Trustees were also present: Prof. Dr. Vasil Yankov, Honorary Rector of BSU; Prof. Dr. Galya Hristozova, Rector of BSU from 2014 to 2022; Prof. Dr. Dimitar Yudov; Mr. Dimitar Sabkov; Prof. Dr. Evelina Dineva; Prof. Dr. Lina Anastasova; Gen. Krasimir Petrov; Mr. Yanko Yankov.
Congratulatory addresses were received from: Mr. Vladimir Krumov, Regional Governor; Prof. Dr. Miglena Temelkova, Chair of the Council of Rectors; Prof. Dr. Sotir Sotirov, Rector of University “Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov”; Valentina Kamalieva, Head of the Regional Education Office – Burgas; Angel Stoykov, Chair of the National Student Council; Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov, Rector of UNWE; Mr. Evgeni Manyakhin, Chair of the Board of Lukoil Neftochim Burgas.
