BFU Opened a Space for Ideas at EDUBurgas 2026
In the year marking the 35th anniversary of its establishment, Burgas Free University hosted the fourth edition of the National EDUcational Forum EduBurgas 2026. Under the motto “The Education of the Future Begins Today”, the university brought together representatives of school and higher education, institutions, and experts united by the common goal of seeking solutions for 21st‑century education.
Hosting the forum is a natural continuation of BFU’s mission to be a place where new ideas are born, successful practices are exchanged, and partnerships are built in support of quality education. Throughout its 35 years, the university has consistently upheld the understanding that the development of education requires open dialogue between the academic community, schools, business, and public institutions.
At the opening of the forum, Rector Prof. Dr. Milen Baltov welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of the practice‑oriented program, which includes discussions and workshops dedicated to digital technologies, virtual laboratories, positive education, and modern teaching approaches.
The academic expertise of Burgas Free University was among the key highlights of the forum. The second panel, “Skills of the Future”, was moderated and carried out with the active participation of university lecturers.
Prof. Dr. Sc. Galia Hristozova focused her presentation on literacy as the foundation for successful learning and adaptation in contemporary society, highlighting its evolving content in the context of digital transformation.
Prof. Dr. Maria Alexieva, Vice‑Rector of Burgas Free University, presented a vision for 21st‑century skills, emphasizing that modern education must purposefully develop various types of literacy—functional, digital, information, media, civic, and global. She stressed the need to build critical thinking, creativity, collaboration skills, and lifelong learning as key competencies for successful professional and social realization.
The EduBurgas 2026 program continues with practical workshops and discussions dedicated to innovation in teaching, inclusive education, social‑emotional learning, and the application of new technologies in the classroom.
For Burgas Free University, the forum is yet another confirmation that the university not only prepares specialists but also actively participates in shaping the national debate on the development of education.
