BFU Participates in the EUNICoast Alliance General Assembly in Dubrovnik

Representatives of Burgas Free University took part in the General Assembly of the European University Alliance EUNICoast, held from 10–12 March 2026 at the University of Dubrovnik, Croatia. The event brought together members of university leadership, academic staff, international cooperation experts, and students from the partner institutions within the alliance.

BFU was represented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atanas Luizov, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Veselina Zhecheva, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anna Cholakova, the Head of the International Office Mrs. Gergana Kirova, as well as students Taisiya Zenkovich and Maria Burlakova, who took part in the activities of the alliance’s student structures.

The EUNICoast General Assembly is the first large-scale meeting of the partner universities since the establishment of the alliance and marks a key moment in its development. The multi-day programme included sessions of various governance and academic bodies—rectors’ and vice-rectors’ councils, working packages, educational and research hubs, as well as meetings of the student representation.

The discussions focused on the strategic development of the alliance, joint educational programmes, scientific research, and the mobility of students and academic staff.

Participants also addressed future priorities of the partnership, aimed at the sustainable development of coastal and island regions, the advancement of the blue economy, and the strengthening of European academic cooperation.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the exchange of ideas and best practices among the partner universities, as well as for strengthening the connections between academic communities and students within the alliance.

The EUNICoast Alliance brings together 13 European universities from coastal and island regions, working jointly to advance education, research, and innovation dedicated to the sustainable development of maritime and coastal communities.
