BFU Recognized at the First “Academic Horizons” Awards in Burgas
The Municipality of Burgas presented the first awards for contribution to higher education and the development of the academic community in the city during the official “Academic Horizons” ceremony, held at the Center for Contemporary Art and Library.
The event brought together representatives of the academic community, national and local authorities, rectors, lecturers, and public figures united by the shared mission of establishing Burgas as a modern university, educational, and scientific center.
Organized for the first time by the Municipality of Burgas, the ceremony was dedicated entirely to the advancement of higher education and to the people whose professionalism, knowledge, and dedication shape the academic profile of the city.
Among the recipients of the honorary “St. Cyril and St. Methodius” plaque were Burgas Free University lecturers – Prof. Dr. Maria Alexieva, Vice-Rector of the University, and Assoc. Prof. Veselina Zhecheva.
The special award “The Burgas Lighthouse” was presented to individuals with an exceptional contribution to the expansion of the academic landscape of Burgas. The honorees were Prof. Dr. Eng. Ivaylo Koprev, Rector of the University of Mining and Geology “St. Ivan Rilski”; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hristo Mihaylov, Rector of the University of Forestry; and Prof. Dr. Sava Dimitrov, Rector of the National Music Academy “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov”.
Other awardees included representatives of the University “Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov”, the Luben Groys Theatre College, the Burgas branch of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, the National Academy of Arts – Burgas, and NATFA.
The recognition is a high appreciation both for the personal contribution of the awarded lecturers and for the consistent role of BFU in developing the academic environment, innovation, and modern higher education in Burgas.
The “Academic Horizons” ceremony is establishing itself as a new symbol of respect for academic values, spirituality, and the mission of educators who shape the future of society through education and knowledge.
