Digital Twins at BFU with Participants from Europe, Asia and Africa
In the period 11–13 June 2026, Burgas Free University hosted the 7th International Conference on Governance and Strategic Management (ICGSM) of the largest technological university in Malaysia – Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), dedicated to the theme “Digital Twins for a Circular Future.”
The scientific forum brought together scholars, researchers, and representatives of the public sector and business from Europe, Asia and Africa, who discussed the role of digital technologies in sustainable development, the circular economy and strategic management.
The conference was opened by Prof. Dr. Milen Baltov, Rector of Burgas Free University. The plenary session featured leading international experts and academics. The keynote speech was delivered by Mr. Mohd Azwan Bin Ramli, Director of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission in the state of Selangor, who presented Malaysia’s initiatives for combating corruption in the context of sustainable development. A special guest of the conference was Dr. Norazam Bin Mohd Noor from the Public Service Department of Malaysia, who presented approaches for integrating HEMAT values into public administration. A plenary report was delivered by Prof. Dr. Jamaliah Said from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia, titled “Digital Twins for a Circular Future: Transforming Governance, Sustainability and Inclusive Development.”
During the conference, scientific papers were presented on the implementation of artificial intelligence in organizations, ESG policies, sustainable leadership, digital transformation, the development of the blue economy and strategic planning of digitalization. Special attention was given to the relationship between technological innovation and sustainable governance in a dynamic global environment.
As part of the programme, the “Digital Twins” initiative for the Black Sea was presented at the Executive Agency “Maritime Administration” – Burgas, highlighting the opportunities for using digital twins in the management and protection of the marine environment.
The event reaffirmed the role of Burgas Free University as an international centre for scientific exchange and partnership between the academic community, public institutions and business in the field of sustainable development and digital transformation.
