EUNICoast European Alliance Brought Its Partners Together in Finland From 1 to 3 June, representatives of Burgas Free University took part in an EUNICoast working meeting at ÅUAS, Finland

From 1 to 3 June 2026, representatives of Burgas Free University participated in the joint meeting of Work Package 2 “Education” and Work Package 7 “Impact and Dissemination” within the European University Alliance EUNICoast. The event was hosted by Åland University of Applied Sciences (ÅUAS), Finland.

BSU was represented by Prof. Maria Alexieva, D.Sc., Vice-Rector and member of Work Package 2; Ms. Gergana Kirova, Head of the International Office and participant in Work Packages 2 and 7; and Assoc. Prof. Veselina Zhecheva, PhD, member of Work Package 7.

“Our participation in EUNICoast is an opportunity to contribute to the development of European higher education and to build sustainable partnerships that create new opportunities for our students, lecturers, and researchers. Meetings like this demonstrate the strength of cooperation between universities and the shared vision for the future of education in Europe,” emphasized Prof. Maria Alexieva.

Over the course of three days, representatives of the partner universities discussed progress in the implementation of activities related to education, communication, impact, and the sustainable development of the alliance. Key topics included the development of the common EUNICoast educational model, the creation of micro‑credentials, the integration of European values and the Sustainable Development Goals into curricula, as well as the use of generative artificial intelligence in the educational process.

Special attention was given to the development of innovative educational formats, the exchange of good practices among partner universities, and the creation of mechanisms for more effective dissemination of the alliance’s results within the academic community and society.

BSU representatives played an active role in the working sessions and discussions. Ms. Gergana Kirova contributed to the presentation of activities related to the development of educational initiatives under Work Package 2. Assoc. Prof. Veselina Zhecheva took part in the meetings dedicated to the development of communities of practice, planning of local dissemination initiatives, international conferences, and the EUNICoast Ambassadors Programme.

The programme also included keynote lectures, practical workshops, and discussions on topics such as social sustainability, student experience, institutional impact of the alliance, and the application of European values in education.

Participants visited the Parliament of the Åland Islands and the Åland Peace Institute – an associated partner of EUNICoast – where they learned about good practices in sustainable development, democratic governance, and peace culture.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the exchange of ideas among representatives of all partner universities and for planning the next joint activities in support of the alliance’s strategic goals.

The participation of Burgas Free University in the activities of Work Packages 2 and 7 is another step towards strengthening BSU’s role as an active partner in the EUNICoast European University Alliance. Through its expert contribution, the university helps build an innovative, sustainable, and internationally connected educational ecosystem focused on the future of European higher education.
