Future lawyers from BFU visited the Appellate Prosecutor’s Office – Burgas

More than 30 first‑year students from the Center for Legal Studies at Burgas Free University visited the Appellate Prosecutor’s Office – Burgas as part of the traditional “Open Doors Day” initiative. The students were accompanied by the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hristo Pavlov.

For many of the future lawyers, this was their first opportunity to observe closely the work of the prosecution service and the activities of prosecutors at the appellate level. The guests were welcomed by Prosecutor Yovita Grigorova – Deputy Administrative Head of the Appellate Prosecutor’s Office – Burgas, as well as Prosecutor Yordanka Dacheva.

The visit began in the institution’s conference hall, where the students attended a special lecture dedicated to the structure, functions, and competencies of the prosecution offices within the Burgas Appellate District. The organization of the district and regional prosecutor’s offices in Burgas, Yambol, and Sliven was presented, along with the role of the appellate prosecution as a supervisory authority.

The prosecutors explained the main categories of cases handled at the appellate level. These include serious intentional crimes such as murders, robberies committed by dangerous recidivists, fatal road traffic accidents, tax crimes, smuggling, and other cases of high public significance.

The lecture turned into a lively discussion during which the students showed interest in real cases from prosecutorial practice and asked numerous questions related to criminal law and the work of the state prosecution.

After the meeting, the guests had the opportunity to visit the registry office of the Appellate Prosecutor’s Office – Burgas and learn about the organization of document flow and administrative procedures within the institution.

As part of the initiative, the students were also received by the Appellate Prosecutor Lyubomir Petrov – Administrative Head of the Appellate Prosecutor’s Office – Burgas. He shared interesting moments from his more than 35‑year professional career and sparked the students’ interest with questions related to criminal justice.
