International BIP at BSU Brings Together AI, IoT and the Blue Economy
From 13 to 17 July 2026, Burgas Free University is hosting the international Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) “Blue Intelligence: Integrating Ocean Literacy with IoT and AI for Sustainable Futures”, organised under the Erasmus+ programme.
The programme brings together students and lecturers from four European universities – two Romanian institutions (Bogdan Voda University in Cluj-Napoca and the Petroleum-Gas University of Ploiești), the University of Trnava (Slovakia) and the Riga College of Law (Latvia). Together with their colleagues from BSU, they work on topics related to sustainable development, marine environment protection and the application of modern digital technologies.
During the five-day physical mobility, participants follow an intensive programme combining lectures, practical labs, real-case problem solving and teamwork. The focus is placed on Ocean Literacy, marine data analysis, the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence and their application for monitoring and protecting marine ecosystems.
The training began with topics dedicated to the connection between the ocean, climate and society, the European mission “Restore Our Ocean and Waters”, and the development of the blue economy. This is followed by practical sessions using open marine databases, satellite observations and data visualisation tools.
A special part of the programme is devoted to demonstrations and hands-on work with IoT devices for collecting environmental data in real conditions, as well as the use of AI tools for identifying patterns, analysing and forecasting processes in the marine environment.
The programme concludes with the development of original projects integrating Ocean Literacy, IoT and AI into education and citizen science. International teams will present their ideas to lecturers and participants, and the successful completion will be marked with a certificate ceremony.
Blended Intensive Programmes under Erasmus+ provide students with opportunities to acquire practical skills, work in an international academic environment and build sustainable partnerships that foster knowledge exchange and innovation in addressing global challenges.
