PhD Students of Burgas Free University Participated in the JSI Doctoral School at the University of the Antilles
In the period 8–12 June 2026, PhD students from Burgas Free University took part in the JSI Doctoral School, organized by the EUNICoast Alliance and hosted by the Université des Antilles in Guadeloupe, France. The event brought together young researchers from the partner universities of the alliance to work collaboratively on topics related to health, environment, education, digital transformation, sustainable development, and the blue economy.
Burgas Free University was represented by PhD candidates Katina Lukova and Milena Marinova from the Center for Research and Applied Sciences (CRAS) and Fatme Nurieva from the Center for Legal Studies (CLS). During the conference, the three doctoral students presented their dissertation research, highlighting their research questions, hypotheses, methodology, and the significance of their topics.
The JSI Doctoral School programme included intensive lectures and workshops dedicated to scientific methodology and research ethics, the development of competitive research projects, scientific communication, data management and open science, as well as the enhancement of research skills and career visibility. Participants worked in interdisciplinary teams on real case studies related to the blue economy, environmental challenges in island regions, the role of artificial intelligence in education, and the digital transformation of island heritage, concluding with joint presentations before a jury.
The participation of BSU’s PhD students contributed to building new academic contacts and partnerships within EUNICoast, as well as to the exchange of experience and good practices with researchers from various scientific fields and countries.
Burgas Free University is an active partner in the European University of Islands, Ports and Coastal Territories — EUNICoast, developing research and educational activities in the fields of the blue economy, digital twins, and the sustainable development of coastal regions. The participation of the PhD students in the JSI Doctoral School is another step in supporting international research mobility and strengthening BSU’s position as a dynamic and globally oriented academic institution.
