Students and PhD Candidates from BSU Participated in the International Summer School on Cybersecurity in Romania
From 2 to 10 July 2026, five students and one PhD candidate from the Center for Legal Studies at Burgas Free University participated in the fourth edition of the International Summer School on Cyber-Crime & Cyber-Security (3CS), hosted by the Romanian-American University in Bucharest. The participation of the group was organized with the academic support of Assoc. Prof. Mila Ivanova.
BSU was represented by students Kadir Ibryam, Martin Trendafilov, Alexandra Filipova, Iliyan Bachkov and Miriam Gospodinova, as well as PhD candidate Radoslav Staikov.
The summer school is organized by the REACT (Research Excellence Against Child Trafficking) initiative, established within the Center for Human Rights and Migration at the Romanian-American University, with the financial and expert support of the National Police of the Netherlands. It is implemented as an ERASMUS+ Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) and provides participants with 3 ECTS credits.
The international training brought together students, PhD candidates, lecturers, law enforcement representatives and experts from Italy, the United States, Portugal, Kosovo, Brazil, India, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic and other countries. Its international format enabled the exchange of knowledge, good practices and professional experience in cybercrime, organized crime, human trafficking, cybersecurity and the application of artificial intelligence.
The programme included lectures, practical seminars, interactive workshops, real-case analysis, teamwork on international projects and discussions focused on combating cybercrime, organized crime and human trafficking, the use of artificial intelligence, the protection of fundamental rights and the application of modern technologies in criminal investigations.
During the training, PhD candidate Radoslav Staikov delivered a lecture on contemporary challenges in countering human trafficking, presenting current aspects of international cooperation and good practices in investigation and prevention.
Participation in the summer school provided students and the PhD candidate with the opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary and international academic environment, exchange ideas with leading scholars, experts and law enforcement representatives, and acquire practical knowledge and skills in cybercrime, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and combating organized crime and human trafficking.
The involvement in the programme contributed to expanding their professional competencies, establishing international academic contacts and strengthening the active presence of Burgas Free University in international educational and scientific initiatives.
