On 24 April 2026, forty students from the Center for Economic and Management Sciences (CEMS) and the Center for Informatics and Technical Sciences (CITS) visited the largest refinery on the Balkan Peninsula, “LUKOIL Neftochim Burgas” AD. The purpose of the visit was to conduct practical training and to familiarize the students with best practices in logistics management within an enterprise that is part of Europe’s critical infrastructure. The delegation from Burgas Free University was led by Prof. Dr. Sava Dimov from CEMS and Assistant Ruzhin Velkov from CITS. The practical training was carried out with the kind cooperation of the management of “LUKOIL Neftochim Burgas” AD.

The visit took place in two stages. During the first stage, the students visited the company museum and learned about the long and eventful history of the Burgas refinery.

The second stage, which represented the most important part of the practical training, was dedicated to presenting and discussing topics related to logistics management at the refinery. The lecturer from the company was Ivan Chavdarov – Chairman of the Council of Young Specialists at the plant and Head of the Project Development Office at “LUKOIL Neftochim Burgas” AD. He provided a detailed overview of the functional areas of logistics in the oil industry, the logistics strategies, principles, and operations applied at the refinery, the methods of inventory management and the logistics trade‑offs typical for the industry, as well as the indicators used by management to assess the effectiveness of logistics processes. Thus, the future economists and managers received an excellent opportunity for practical preparation in a real working environment at the largest industrial enterprise in Bulgaria, allowing them to enrich and systematize the knowledge and skills acquired in the course “Logistics and Distribution Policy.”

“LUKOIL Neftochim Burgas” AD is a long‑standing partner of Burgas Free University in various initiatives, training programs, and projects.
