Students of Burgas Free University Support the Idea – Public Transport for Learners at 1 Euro

Students of Burgas Free University will be able to benefit from a new social measure introduced by the Municipality of Burgas, which provides unlimited travel on public transport with a monthly pass costing 1 euro. The initiative is expected to come into effect on March 1.

The measure is aimed at school pupils and university students and seeks to ease the financial burden on young people, as well as to encourage the use of environmentally friendly urban transport. Nearly 8,000 students study in Burgas, many of whom rely on public transportation on a daily basis.

Taisiya Zenkovich, a master’s student in “Circular Economy” at Burgas Free University, was interviewed on the topic by bTV correspondent Diana Bedrosyan. She commented that the initiative not only improves students’ access to public transport and supports the development of urban infrastructure, but also has a significant positive impact on the environment by contributing to more efficient use of resources and reducing carbon emissions in urban areas.

It is proposed that the municipal transport operator receive compensation for each issued pass. The Mayor of Burgas, Mr. Dimitar Nikolov, emphasized that investments in accessible mobility for students are investments in the future and in the intellectual potential of Bulgaria.
