The BFU Alumni Association Supports Students with New Ideas

The Alumni Association of Burgas Free University (AZBSU) held a meeting on 19 May in Conference Center 2 at BSU, dedicated to the development of the alumni community and its connection with the university, as well as to the celebration of the 35th anniversary of the university’s founding. The event was moderated by lawyer Minko Stefanov, the first Chair of the BSU Student Council, who emphasized the role of alumni as ambassadors of the university and as role models for future generations of students.

The meeting brought together graduates from the first “Law” cohort of BSU, who today are established legal professionals not only in Burgas but across Bulgaria, and who will soon celebrate the 30th anniversary of their graduation. Alumni from other programmes also attended, including colleagues who are now part of the academic and administrative teams of the university, among them graduates who in December 2024 were the first to celebrate 30 years since completing their studies — such as the students of the then affiliated Bulgarian-British Technical College.

Participants shared memories from their student years, spoke about their first professional steps, and reflected on how the knowledge and skills acquired at BSU helped them build successful careers. The alumni expressed their gratitude to the university and their lecturers, highlighting that their education provided them with practical and applicable knowledge essential for their professional development.

During the meeting, future directions for the development of the Alumni Association were discussed, including the creation of an activity regulation, regular initiatives, and the organization of annual gatherings. The idea is for the alumni community to support current BSU students through mentorship, sharing of experience, professional contacts, and good practices, thereby strengthening the link between academic training and the real professional environment. The first steps also include the use of the platform for successful BSU graduates — https://alumni.bfu.bg — which, in addition to serving as a database and contact network, will also generate information about upcoming events. AZBSU will dedicate its efforts to the celebration of the 35th anniversary of the university’s founding.
