The Board of Directors of the Marine Science Society meets at the BFU

For the first time since the establishment of the Marine Science Society (MSS), its Management Board is meeting outside the Nikola Yonkov Vaptsarov Higher Naval School (MSS) and the city of Varna, which initiated it 4 years ago. At the suggestion of the Chairman of the MSS and Rector of the MSS, Fleet Admiral Prof. Dr. Kalin Kalinov, the meeting was held at the Burgas Free University, hosted by the member of the Management Board and Rector of the Bulgarian Free University, Prof. Dr. Milen Baltov.

During the meeting, the initiative of Prof. Dr. Kalinov to acquire a new modern research vessel within the framework of the Water Resources Sustainability Program, financed under the EEA Financial Mechanism and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2021–2028 and administered by the Ministry of Environment and Water as the Program Operator, was discussed, in order to meet the needs for research activities in the Black Sea area and the potential implementation of the SEA NPP.

A concept for the Science Festival "OCEANIA" 2027 was discussed, with author: Velin Paskov - journalist and TV producer, as well as an international scientific conference related to the International Black Sea Day on October 31, 2026, on a day close to the event. A decision was made to convene a general meeting of the ISN on May 12.
