The Rector of Burgas Free University Elected Chair of the Supervisory Board of the Council of Rectors
The Rector of Burgas Free University, Prof. Dr. Milen Baltov, was re‑elected as Chair of the Supervisory Board of the Council of Rectors of Higher Education Institutions in the Republic of Bulgaria (CRHEIRB) at the General Reporting and Election Assembly of the association held on 26 March.
Before the election of the new Supervisory Board members, Prof. Baltov presented both the reports on the implementation of the association’s leadership programme and the execution of the budgets, as well as a consolidated report on the work of the Supervisory Board. He highlighted the valuable initiative of holding a joint meeting between the Bulgarian Council of Rectors and the Hungarian Rectors’ Conference, recommending that the future leadership draw lessons from Hungary’s successful reform. In Hungary, after state universities for children were transformed into public institutions and only four remained essentially state-run, funding resources began to be used far more efficiently. The report was adopted unanimously with 52 votes out of 52, and the work of the Supervisory Board and its chair for the 2024–2026 term was highly praised.
Prof. Dr. Miglena Temelkova, Rector of the University of Telecommunications and Post, was re‑elected as Chair of the Council of Rectors, and nearly all current members of the Management Board—rectors of various institutions—were also re‑elected. With this, the General Assembly confirmed the achievements and the successful direction of the current leadership in the field of higher education.
Prof. Baltov is the only member who retains his position in the Supervisory Board and continues as its chair. The new members are Assoc. Prof. Dr. Boryana Ivanova, Rector of the Agricultural University – Plovdiv, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zhan Pehlivanov, Rector of the Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts “Prof. Asen Diamandiev” – Plovdiv.
