The Word as a Bridge at BFU on the Occasion of Book Day
On April 22, on the eve of the International Book and Copyright Day, the event “Europe in Dialogue: The Word as a Bridge” was held at the University Library of Burgas Free University. The initiative was organized by the Eurodesk Point together with the Student Council at BSU, in the context of the European Youth Week and as part of the program dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the university’s establishment.
The event was opened in the presence of official guests – Prof. Dr. Milen Baltov, Rector of BSU, Assoc. Prof. Zornitsa Ganeva, Deputy Dean of the Center for Humanities, Assoc. Prof. Hristo Pavlov, Dean of the Center for Legal Sciences, and Assoc. Prof. Todor Kostadinov, Dean of the Center for Informatics and Technical Sciences. The 80th anniversary of the birth of Prof. Andon Lazarov was also celebrated within the program, with his family making a donation to his personal library at the university.
The donation includes valuable scientific publications, manuscripts and specialized literature collected by Prof. Lazarov over the decades of his academic and research activities. The collection not only reflects his broad interests and in-depth approach to science, but also represents a significant contribution to the development of the university library.
The moderator of the event was Prof. Kalina Lukova, who drew attention to the importance of the word as a means of intercultural dialogue and spiritual connection. The event was attended by students and alumni of the university, who presented excerpts from world and Bulgarian literature, as well as author's texts, turning the meeting into a space for sharing personal reading impressions.
In the ensuing discussion, the participants and the audience discussed issues related to the role of literature in modern society - can it overcome cultural differences, how the perception of the word is changing in the digital age and what could restore interest in books among young people. Particular attention was paid to the topic of the personal impact of books and their ability to form values and worldview.
The event highlighted the importance of the word as a bridge between generations and cultures and created an inspiring environment for dialogue, sharing and new encounters around literature. It is becoming a valuable tradition for the university, and participants wished for the initiative to continue next year with even wider participation.
