Foreign Languages department

The Foreign Languages Department at Burgas Free University provides courses in English and Russian, and courses for teaching Bulgarian to foreigners, and is in charge of the foreign language teaching courses of the students at BFU.

The courses in English and Russian are orginised for all the levels of the European Framework of Languages, using specially designed programmes:

• intensive courses in English and Russian (general and specialized);
• yearly courses in English and Russian for secondary-school students and university students;
• language courses for the training of company employees;
• courses for training for school-leaving exams and university admission exams;
• exam-oriented certificate courses in English for CAE, TOEFL, IELTS and PEARSON.

The courses take place at Burgas Free University. The Department also provides online courses, jointly organized with the Centre for Distance Education. The Department provides courses in German, French, Spanish and Italian, as well.

The courses in Bulgarian are especially targeted at foreign students who are enrolled on degree programmes at Burgas Free University or other universities in Bulgaria, and for foreigners who are residents in the country. Students who have successfully finished the courses are issued certificates, in accordance with the requirements of the Republic of Bulgaria.
The foreign language education of the students of Burgas Free University is obligatory for all the full-time students at the University, and is included in the curricula during the first four semesters. Optional specialized courses are also offered, as well as opportunities for sitting certificate exams in accordance with the standards of the European Framework for Languages.
