BFU in the Final COST Action Conference on Multi-Disciplinary Innovation for Social Change

The Final Conference of the EU COST Action (Ca18236) “Multi-disciplinary Innovation for Social Change (SHINE)”, financed by the EU Horizon 2020 Programme will take place on the 6th of March, at 09:30-17:00 at the Permanent Representation of Estonia to the EU, Rue Guimard 11/13, 1040 Brussels. The COST Action CA18236 members and other stakeholders will attend the conference.
This Cost Action focuses on multi-disciplinary and inter-sectoral innovation for societal change. The action has been working for the past four years to enhance the Knowledge Alliances between Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and enterprises that aim to foster innovation, entrepreneurship, creativity, employability, knowledge exchange, and/or multidisciplinary teaching and learning. Also, it has been analyzing HEIs' role in addressing societal challenges and driving societal impact.
The final conference aims to present the results achieved with the network and discuss the policy recommendations in the field of higher education institutions and the advancement of social innovation in cooperation with the private sector actors and communities.
As an effect of the cooperation established within the Action between the initial coordinator for short-term scientific missions - Prof. Milen Baltov,PhD and his successor - Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shane O'Sullivan, an international project with a focus on social entrepreneurship with participant institutions from 6 countries was developed and successfully implemented.
During the International Scientific Conference "Contemporary Management Practices XI - Smart specialisation in the decade of business connectivity to locomotions”, organised and held in June 2021 by Burgas Free University, the keynote speaker – Assoc. Prof. Dr. Katri-Liis Lepik from Estonia, Chair of Cost Action 18236, presented a paper in the field of the multi-disciplinary innovation for social change.
On October 14th , 2021 a Round table was held at Burgas Free University under the Cost Action "“Multi-disciplinary Innovation for Social Change (SHINE)”. The topic of the regional event of the Working group 4 of the Action was "Innovations in the quadruple-helix education-business-governance-society in the sea coastal areas". The Black Sea Multidisciplinary Innovation Laboratory towards Social Changes ( BS MILab) at Burgas Free University was launched at the event.
During the final high-level conference in Brussels, the initiative of Burgas Free University will be established for a new series of international conferences with the core title "Multi-disciplinary Innovations for Social Change", the first of which is scheduled to take place in June 2024. In its focus will be the quadruple helix collaboration among different knowledge domains, including higher education, secondary education and training, research and the business, leading to the development of new products, services and practices with a positive effect on society.
